The idea behind "the Gamrupa health care Fund" is that if everyone pays a small contribution per month, it will give a large sum every month. By involving different villages to set this up, there is even a very large sum. This money is intended for regular personnel. Five different, neighbor villages, would in this way, employ a doctor, a laboratory and at least five well trained all-round nurses. Every working day the doctor and Laboratory would be in one of the five villages for seeing people. Most of the work of the all-round nurse would be the ordinary everyday treatments, such as cleaning wounds, taking care for the simple bone fractures, the treatment of malaria and diabetes, eyes instillation and so on. Patients who need to be seen by the doctor can come back at the day that the doctor is in his village or, if needed, sent to a hospital to be seen by a specialist. So there will be a reasonable health care, without interference from people from the North. We are in the process of starting up the Gamrupa Health Care Fund in Sifoe, which means that there is, at present, still needed money from the North. But we are convinced that if the people understand the purpose and the advantage of this construction, they will be joining at large majority.
At this moment all kabilo's (large family's) of Sifoe joined and pay the contribution each month. Now for the kabilo as a whole but in the near future, as individuals. It is a very simple plan of which we think it will work, and of which the majority will benefit.
But as I said before, it is just in the introduction sphere yet. Contacts with other villages are in essence made and there are often meetings and discussions on this issue.
