Project

For many years the Committee Members of the SHHG-BE were involved in sponsorship through the Dutch Foundation. Their last visit to The Gambia dates back to November 2008 when they visited the projects of the Dutch Foundation.
While visiting the Lower Basic School in Nafugan, the mothers of the pupils asked for help in establishing a vegetable garden.
Thus our project was pioneered.
About 50 women will work in the garden.
The initial plot measures 50 m x 50 m, but we aim to expand it to 500 m x 500 m. Experts from the Ministry of Agriculture in Basse will provide technical support. At first the women will cultivate vegetables to feed their families, but as the project grows they intend to sell part of the harvest in order to provide for other needs of their children.
In June 2009 the plot was cleared and a start was made on building the fence.
